Update on Ashley

Wanted to give you a update on my BFF Vickie her daughter Ashley that was in a Columbus Hospital last week. They released her last Sunday. Doctors were almost positive that it was a kidney infection. Today they got some other results back and here she was told it was this.

LaCrosse Encephalitis

LaCrosse encephalitis is a rare viral disease that is spread by infected mosquitoes. It usually affects children.
LaCrosse encephalitis is one of several mosquito-borne virus diseases that can affect the central nervous system and cause severe complications.
LaCrosse encephalitis is found mainly in the upper midwestern United States and in the Appalachian region.
There is no specific treatment for LaCrosse encephalitis.
Prevention centers on controlling mosquitoes and avoiding mosquito bites.

What is LaCrosse encephalitis?

LaCrosse encephalitis is a rare disease that is spread by infected mosquitoes. It gets its name from LaCrosse, Wisconsin, where the infection was first recognized in 1963. LaCrosse encephalitis is one of a group of mosquito-borne virus diseases that can affect the central nervous system and cause severe complications and even death. Other similar diseases are eastern equine encephalitis, western equine encephalitis, and St. Louis encephalitis.

They will be keeping a close eye on her for any other problems that may start up. For now she can go to school. So please keep Ashley in your prayers that this is over. My sister's stepson Blake had this when he was 8 yrs old and was in Akron Children's Hospital for a while in ICU.

Thanx again for all your prayers & Vickie says a big Thank you too.

I'm glad they were able to figure out what the problem was with her fever/illness. I have never heard of this and I've been doing medical reports for over 30 years, it is interesting to read about but not when it affects someone you love. will keep her in my prayers.
