Ice Cream Social , Garden and Habitat

Last Wednesday was the school Ice Cream Social. It was a busy day and lots going on. So just the three older kids and I went to it. Carly hardly slept that day and she goes to bed about 7pm or so. Dad worked 10 hrs and I didn't find out until Tuesday night Ridge was going to have to stay the whole time because he had to do a presentation in the habitat. It started at 6pm and was over at 8pm.

So here is Ridge , Thaniqua and Jennifer

I wanted to show some pictures of the lovely garden the kids have at school. They grow lots of different vegetables and fruit and flowers. Since there school is year round they teach the children a lot about the growing seasons. I think it's a great thing. The students even as young as kindergarten get the chance to go to the garden and weed , water , plant or pick things. They also have parents or families adopt a bed or two and take care of them. I adopted two beds for our family. Also they have a Farmers Market in the fall to sell there fruits and vegetables. The students run it and teachers oversee it. They get to learn math by the prices and other things. Last year money from the Farmer's market went to a student that attends there that has cancer.

The school also has a habitat. They all kinds of things in there. It's really neat that they have all this at school. Ridge had to speak about the coyote willow. I took a few pics of him speaking. He did a wonderful job. He loves the chance to get to do things like that.

Hope you enjoyed this. This one of the big reasons I fell in love with this school. They have so much to offer.
Also if you attended the ice cream social the students were given a Homework Pass to not do there homework that night. What another sweet treat that was !!!!!!

Sounds like an awesome school. I love that they have the garden and habitat. Jennifer looks like she wasn't interested in the pictures.

I like how the school gets all students involved in the garden and certainly a great project to sell the veggies at Farmers Market. Very good lessons to learn all around!! cute pictures of the kids. Cool that Ridge could shine in something he enjoys doing with sharing about the coyote willow in the habitat. Hope he had a chance to get some ice cream too!

Wow, your kids' school is so neat! You take really good pictures, btw, but I liked the little "waterflow" (baby waterfall, LOL) going into the pond the best. ~Debbie
